I need to replace my front brakes on my 2000 conv, I'm thinking of ceramic to cut down on the dust. Is there any other advantages or disadvantages with ceramic pads and do they perform better or worse
than semi metallic. i would appreciate any input. Thanks
Some folks will tell you that your stopping distances will increase but I haven't noticed any real difference. What I have noticed is a great decrease in brake dust!

I have heard the same thing. I have ceramic pads and there is
far less dust, I have not noticed any difference in stopping
distance because I seldom use them----any where.
I can't provide any links or proof but I have seen tests on ceramic pads VS the OEM corvette pad and there was an increased stopping distance with the ceramic pad. If I remember it was about a 10% increase.
Ceramic pads are great and many go to them on first change because of the dusting issue. Ceramics both produce less dust and the dust they make is lighter in color so its less visible.
They do however perform less effectively than the oem pads, or a HPS (like the Hawks). They "bite" a little less securly (and therefore take a slightly longer distance to stop at all times) and under repeated or hard use they heat up and fade a lot sooner than a softer pad.
For DD type driving you are unlikey to notice a difference (other than the cleaner wheels).
There is no free lunch though When you rub any two things together, the harder one wears down the softer one. Less dust means more rotor wear. And "filthy" brakes usualy mean they stop on a dime
I never have any dusting issues using HPS pads. As long as you bed them in really well I get very minimal dust during regular driving. If you don't bed them in you have a lot of dust. Most brake shops don't do the bedding process, they just test drive it.
