Default C5 - Original tires?

How do I know if the tires on a C5 have been replaced or if they are the originals that the car came with from the factory?

First of all you'd want to check if it's the same Goodyear EMT tire that these cars come with. If it's another brand then you know for sure they have been replaced. But assuming that the tires on there are the Goodyear EMTs but you're just not sure if the previous owner replaced those with another set, the best way is to check the date code on the tire. Every tire manufactured has a date code on it, and so for example if the car you're interested in (have you found one yet by the way?) happens to be a 2003, and the tires have a date stamp of something like August 2006, then you would know for sure that they have been replaced.

I am hoping to go look at a car tomorrow.
Do you have any more info on the date stamp, where I find it and how I read it?

Here is how to read the date stamp. It is on the rear (inside) of Goodyear EMT tires.

Look for a raised DOT followed by a series of numbers. The last one will be something like 4003 ( from a tire on my 04) which means the tire was made in the 40th week of 2003.

If I remember correctly OEM tires will have a TCP spec on the outside that will not be found on replacement tires.

If you've got 20k miles or more and they don't look like erasers they've probably been replaced.

Are you hoping to buy a car with original tires or trying to avoid the dangerously old original tires? I wouldn't want a car with 7 year old rubber.

No worries mates....my fronts are '99 F1's and the rears are '03 F1's

The rears still squeel and not just spin and groan so still somewhat soft
