Default Column Lock Rant

Currently sitting in a parking lot, waiting for individuals to leave so the tow truck can fit. Luckily my wheels are locked straight ahead. Just dropped $80 on groceries that are going to waste in the heat. Previous owner assured me the recall had been taken care of.

Previous owner may not have been lying. The recall(s) do not necessarily work. Get a CLB.

Good luck.

Try turning the car off, on, off, turn wheel, taking key out, locking the doors with the fob, unlock, start over. A few times when my column locked it freed up that way.

Recall did not always work; CLB $50.

FYI: GM only backs the recall repair for one year, if it malfunctions after that, you are on your own.

I believe if it's already locked - NO! You'll have to get it unlocked first. Try talking to the guys at Corvettes of Houston. (Mike I believe...) They sell the CLB for about $50 and have all the free info you'll need.

Try the vendor HawnHog recommended or Thunder Racing. Both offer the CLB at a good price.

You've had the car a couple weeks now, right?

My FRC had the recall performed and the column lock worked just as it was supposed to.

But still... I ordered the CLB 5 minutes after I pulled the car into my garage for the first time. It's cheap insurance, I see no reason not to do it.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna talk to them tomorrow and see how bad they're gonna screw me. Hopefully I'll be able to get it taken care of cheap. First thing I'm doing is buying that CLB and putting it in once it's home. I need new tires bad! I hope this doesn't kick my azz.

Good luck.

I'm guessing you already tried it, but jamming the steering wheel a couple of times side to side can knock it loose sometimes. If you can get it loose try, put the key in turn it to 'On' and hopefully you will hear the lock motor release. Worked on a friends car.
