Default Recommended Tire sizes

I recently puchased new rims for my 02 Vette. However, I failed to note the width of the new rims, which are 1" wider both front and rear. So now I need new tires as my tires will not swap onto the new rims.

I can't seem to find a tool to help me select the right sizes, so I am turning to the gurus here in the forum.

What are the possible tire sizes for the following rims?:

17 x 9.5"
18 x 10.5"

I heard rumors, that there once was a car called the C5 Z06, having the exact rim sizes you have bought, but please, do not tell anyone!

So 265/40-17 and 295/35-18 would be the optimum, but I know some people having the C5Z rims on standard C5´s with the standard C5 tire dimensions (245/45-17 and 275/40-18), without having any issues..

Best, Bernd

Edit: the standard sizes on the wider rims were not runflats!!

Those are the stock Z06 widths.

I have the GM Z06 wheels and am running 275/40x17 front and 295/35x18 rear. I believe the stock front size was 265/40x17 for the 9.5" wheel.

Okay...

I'll give it a try...we'll see if they'll fit.

Hope you all are correct. Otherwise it's $650 foor a new set of tires.

I'd recommend getting the correct tires, don't stretch the tires onto the wheels.

to a point...

I had this problem when I bought Argent -- the prior owner had the wide rims and the stock-sized tires. I thought the fronts looked terrible and the backs barely OK. I was also concerned about safety.

Long story short, I learned that 275's are OK on 10.5's, but 255's are the recommended minimum for 9.5's. I bought Kumho ASX all-seasons in the 275/255 sizes (they did not have Z06 sizes) and sold the nearly new Toyos that were originally on there. The 255's look pretty good and the 275's were a tiny bit wider than the Toyos so they look OK too.

So, you can safely keep the rear tires but the fronts are "stretching it" so to speak...
