Default Roof Panel issues

I am new to the forum and I have a 2002 C5 I just purchased. My first Vette. It has very low miles (35K) and I love the car but one thing I was told that there might have been an old recall on the roof panel. The right side of the panel has some type of oxidation or stain or something. It looks like something that would buff out but no luck. The roof is not cracked and the left side if fine. I am not quite sure what the issue is, but I thought someone here could tell me if there is recall or an issue with the roof panels. This is not a color one. This is the dark transparent roof panel.

If this cannot be fixed can anyone recommend my best course of action? Other than this, the car is fabulous. I tried searching but "Messed up roof panel" came up with way too much stuff.

Thanks in advance.

There are a few options:

1. Contact AstroTops and get another
2. sand it down re-clear
3. sand it down and paint black

Here is a good link on how to refinish a top.

I really don't remember any recalls being issued on that problem. I've got some Word files that may help you decide what to do with the top though. PM me your e-mail address if interested.

When you say sand it down and reclear, do you mean with a high speed buffer with some type of superfine grade sand paper and then reclear?

Astrotops? I have not thought about that. They are linked here on the forum? I will look around though or google them.

I would like to keep the car as stock as I can so maybe this Astrotops might the way to go if sanding down and reclear is not an option.

Thanks for the response though and the link to refinishing the top

It's a common problem and I don't remember any recall.

I think I will check out some of the body shops like the person did in the referenced thread. Seems like that worked out well and I like leaving this kind of stuff to professionals.

I'm working on my clear top right now. I have all the clear coat stuff off and am sanding out the scratches up to 1000 grit. After that I'll get the clear sprayed and will wetsand that up to 2000 or 3000 before polishing and buffing.
