Congrats. Can you post pics of your Cobra? Quick question, what made you pick a Z06 over upgrading to a 03/04 cobra? Enjoy your Z

I thought about upgrading to a newer Cobra, but I wanted something different. Besides the Corvette stock for stock is quicker than the Cobra, and I can't imagine any Cobra getting 30 mpg.

Thank You. But not all Fords need power adders to be fast. This is one I used to own, and it was pretty quick.

Mine was Sonic Blue...I still miss the instant face melting torque sometimes (with typical '03 Cobra bolt ons it made about 500 rwhp), but my Z is staying stock because I don't miss always having to mess with stuff.

I meant to say MG. I was thinking about the 03/04 color A buddy of mine has a white 03 and we switched cars for a hour or so. His car is making 470 to the wheels while mine has a cai. I don't think I stopped smiling the whole time I had it. Blower whine, the torque it made, and the exhaust note had me in heaven. He really enjoyed my Z too. He liked the shifter position, and liked the power it made all while typically stock. He said it was more easy to control also but still fun.

My old Cobra

maybe he wanted to actually drive?

Termis are great fun but good for a few months. Termis go from fun driving to weekend crusing to hogging Jegs/Summit catalogs.
The Z06 is a different kind of fun that keeps you involved for a long while as a driver perfecting him/her self.
the Z06 can be scary bad, simply superb and completely harmless all in one package and yet be a daily driver and bone STOCK!.
Termis can either be scary bad or weekend warriors (both after a lot of aftermarket parts) or daily drivers. not all.
To me they felt not far away from driving a SVT lightning. look at the way they turn and ride (Stock!)

From what I see on here more than a few corvette owners leave their car inside the garage for weeks at a time anway I dont think the Cobra owners have their nose in the jegs catalog that much. If they are at least its a performance catalog and not some book filled with leather seat covers and trunk poppers

The Cobra keeps their owners involved also from what Ive seen. Since the motor comes built/forged from the factory they are always thinking about the next step for their car. Any Mustang for that matter since it has a pretty huge aftermarket.

I agree with the Z being all those things in one but the cobra is the same imo. They really dont even need alot of aftermarket work done(03/04). Just a pulley/tune and its faster than my Z for less than What we spend on a Cat-Back The 03 Cobra I drove was harmless until the boost kicked in

BUT I will add that I am comparing a modified car to a stock car so its really not fair to begin with.

I bought my Cobra completely stock and modded it a little as mentioned above. It was still very daily-driving friendly other than fuel mileage, but it was still better than a lot of things on the road (trucks, SUVs, etc.). It was very docile until you pushed the "go pedal". I didn't have any major mechanical issues over 46,000 miles of driving - a windshield wiper motor that got noisy and a belt tensioner that started squeaking. As for only having fun for a few months...well, I had plenty of fun over the course of 5 years with mine. The C5 Z06 has always been my "reasonably priced dream car", though, so once I could afford one it was time to make the change. Despite the power deficit, I'm happier with my Z06. It handles better, looks better (that's subjective, but IMO), is more comfortable (better ergonomics, quieter inside though still a little noisy), gets better mileage (not a big deal to me, but it does), and it's still pretty damn fast.

I bought my black/black 03 z about 9 months ago. Bone stock, 29k miles on it. Before that:

1993 fox body coupe (turned track car, still own it)
1997 S281 Saleen supercharged
2006 GT kenne bell supercharged

The vette is a whole new realm. enjoy

Plenty of idiots like that on both sides Pick up MMandFF or Modified mustangs and look at the ads for shifters, louvers, hoods, billet this billet that. And yes a lot of vette owners pamper their rides like trophies. Some drive their vettes and cobras (with the most important GSD3s, MGW/hurst, and SLPs) daily.

Thats not involvement IMO its like a boat you buy one and pay through your nose for the rest of its life. I'd rather have something that is complete...which doesnt need a whole lot of mods, ready to go, to take around a bend and keep up with a 911. It was what 40k for the termi in 2003? at that price i want it competitive with the entry stutgart or m powered bavaria. Thats the stangs credo.

Thats in a straight line. Sure, but thats as much fun as cross-shopping for TP.
Give it a corner, watch the Z nail the snake.
And then of course the immediate reply is.. for a dollar amount of mods the cobra would be more competitive. Sure yes, and if you cross a threshold dollar with katech etc the cobra cannot compete anymore. anyways...no offence, just plain fun.

No offense taken I agree there are certain types of owners who do this or that with any car. I was really just talking about straightline because I don't have any tracks in my area where I can throw my car into a corner I really don't want a ticket either so no public fun. The only race I can get is straightline I've seen more than a few people pick their terminator up for mid 30's. I even believe in a straightline the 03/04 Cobra is just as fast a Normal C5 so that's pretty impressive.

Congrats! I've had two bad-*** 5.0 Fox-bodies and would pick up another one. I don't get too worked up over the whole "brand-loyalty" thing, although GM has treated me the best. You'll love the Z06, so go enjoy it!

Here is the one I sold to pick up my old 2000 LS6 FRC. After going with a Trailblazer SS then a 08 Tundra I am back in a C5 Z06 and lovin every minute of it.

99 GT twin turbo on 8 psi making 450+rwhp and 500+rwtq and fully spooled before 3000 rpm. Thing was a beast and gave plenty of corvette owners trouble. But the Z06 is the complete package.
