Ever since I did the head and cam swap the car has been running hotter. I put a 160 degree thermostat when I did the swap. Today it was running at 230 degrees. I am a loss on what to do too lower the temp. My tuner has the fans coming on earlier so I don't know. Any one with any ideas?
I too just had a cam/header install last week and my stat is reading 100* alway's, check engine light is on and I am getting a code that reads, engine hot, air conditioning off. I am scared to death to drive this. My istaller told me this morning that this is a engine hickup and all should be fine. Do you think this will reset itself after time?
Couple of things to check. Make sure your radiator is clean - blow it out with a compressor or at least take the top plastic radiator cover/support off and clean out in front and between the rad and condenser. Also, you may still have air in the cooling system if it wasn't properly refilled during the hads/cam upgrade. There is a procedure in the manual to prevent this.
My h/c setup runs a little bit hotter than stock but the cooling system rarely gets over 205 deg. F and the stock rad is still in place. I have always planned on putting in a Dewitts upgraded rad but it hasn't been necessary for a street-driven h/c car.
Could be air in the system, but also have known some LS series of engines having head gaskets installed backwards (blocking off some of the ports) causing this.
A lot of time air gets into the system and hard to bleed on LS motors. I have done several and they all act the same. Hopefully with several cold hot engine cycles you will be ok.
