On high way speeds coolant temp keeps climbing up to 208 and sometimes little higher depending on speed but when cruising or stopped at traffic it settles down to as low as 188 and that wats confusing me (all that with AC off). I had my Dewitts rad flushed yesterday and there was no change in temps, so I guess am in for new 160 tstat so my quistion is: Will changing the water pump help in reducing the temps and keeping it in check? Am talking about LS3, Meziere's and Evans. People who tried those might tell the pros and cons of the 3 setups and which is better.
Current mods: Novi 2000, LS6 intake, JBA short headers,No Cats, Magnaflow X pipe and mufflers.
If it’s dropping down while idle mean fans are capable of cooling it. Shouldn’t it drop while driving due to increased air flow and not jump up 10-12 degrees? any thoughts?
Have you cleared the radiator of debris? Did you trim or remove the plastic pieces that deflect air upward to the radiator. I don't mean to insult you, just sometimes we overlook the simple things. It would normally make sense that the temps would be lower at speed but maybe the higher RPMs while driving are enough to increase it above idle temps. The temps you are seeing should not be problematic though.
Hi TP, Yes the radiator had been taken out and flushed with high pressure water in and out and then filled with GM Dexcool Preston 50\50. For the deflector I cut it the same as it’s been described in the manual that came with the Novi. This weekend I installed 160 t-stat, added water wetter and removed the deflector and it got better and more stable. In 117 ambient and driving with speed limit of 75 it didn’t exceed 200 and when raised the speed more the temp reached 212 which I think isn’t too bad. Next step is reprogramming the fans and might as well do the tunnel mode and see what happens.
