I am searching for Vettes and I was wondering. I have seen some with this stripe down the doors going into the front air duct on some Z06's but not on others? Did they just take their's off? Or is it supposed to signify something? I have noticed it on cars of the same model year as well.
It was an option and an ugly one at that. Sorry i'm a little opinionated. They are suppose to protect the doors from other people's doors. I took mine off.

I think the z06 looks much better with the moldings!! If we all had the same taste, the world would be boring!

I agree, too. We have the freedom to make our own decisions to remove or not. I removed them! I think it looks better without.
To remove them, get something like fishing line and slide it between the molding and the body to slice the tape holding them on. After you'll probably need some sort of solvent to remove the leftover adhesive. Lastly, polish and wax your doors and it'll look like they were never there.
I didn't need fishing line to remove mine. It was a hot summer day and it literally pulled right off (although I did need to use a credit card just to pry off the beginning and get it started).
I had to use my thumb to "roll" it off like a booger. It was time consuming but had to get the gunk off. After that, I used "goo gone" from Autozone to get the remaining residue off....then I washed, polished, waxed and it looked brang new
1. heating gun on BSM (body side molding)
2. fishing line to cut adhesive
3. fingers to remove large pieces of adhesive
4. goo-gone for remaining adhesive
5. clay bar
6. buff & polish
7. 2 hours later
Use "body side moldings" as keywords. Use search or search this forum (in the red banner) in C5 tech.
You should find dozens of pages of past threads (if they haven't all been archived yet). There's a few ways to remove them, but heat is the key, either by the sun or heat gun. Take your time. The blisters on your fingers will heal nicely in about a week.
You should be aware that a few have discovered that a previous owner had painted their doors. When they removed the body side moldings, they found the paint was different beneath. Then they either have to paint their doors or re-apply the moldings.
So be careful when removing them. If it's ok beneath, you can usually sell the moldings in the classified forum.
Ok. That answered that question. Ive removed emblems from my LS1 Camaro and put new ones on there, so i know how to do it. Althought i didnt use fishing line when i did it, just a heat gun and my fingers to pry it off, but i ended up burning the tips of my fingers a little cus it was hot. lol
I found you could pull up a lot more glue when using the line. When i just pulled side molding it didn't want to bring any glue with it. Yes heat works well, it was sunny and 70s on one side when i did it. As it got cooler and the sun went down the other side of the car took a little bit longer and was harder to get off.
