Default C5 tie rods replacement

Hi to all,

Well did my oil change this weekend and was told that will need to replace the passenger rear tie-rods, cant remember if it is the out or inner will check the paper work when i get home.
My question is it recomended to replace both sides and any recommendation of aftermarket or just stay with stock.

Thank you

RB

I'm guessing that it's the outer that is bad...Either way, you can't go wrong with Moog ..RockAuto has 'em for $66.79..AC Delco's are about the same price...

I read something about the bump-stop kit is that an alternative or replacement. Or should I stick with just replacing them with stock

Also I found "Corvette Tie Rod Ends, Rear, Hi-Performance, 1997-2004" at Ecklers website for $44.99each. Any one have these should I get them????

Just wanted to mention that I had looked up front tie rods ( I missed that you were referring to the rears).

The bump steer kit is for lowered vettes, and is only used in the front...

The Eckler's ones look like the best price, and it looks like other CF members have bought them...

Default Driving Response

What driving response are you receiving that indicates that you need to replace it/them other than the dealer's recommendation?

Just curious

no no no on ecklers, use moog or ac delco. ecklers has a massive markup and if they are selling for $45 they are not quality and probably similar to $25 ones on rock auto

moog and delco will be authentic OEM equivalent. not softer metal made somewhere in east china but an underpaid farmhand

some members use all kinds of cheap parts and post about it on here. i will never ever never get behind this simply because so many cheap parts fail, won't install right or don't last as long. replacing a tierod means getting another alignment and you don't want to do that twice if this cheap rod doesn't hold up. also a tierod failing can kill you...no exaggeration. if one fails the wheel it fails on will grab whatever groove in the road and fling the car in that direction

For my 2001 the GM part number is 88955488. I'm not sure if it's the same part number for all years. I just replaced both rears. I got them for about $80/ea from an online dealer.

A that price why not get the Baer 3302001 at 175? Seems like they would hold up longer

The number of after market parts manufactured in China is a concern. Some first hand experience within the pharma industry, including conducting quality audits, tells me to be concerned about this trend. If the part is being sold by a quality brand name it is possible they conduct statistical inspection or 100% inspection when the item is received which gives some level of quality assurance. However, "Fly By Night" discount auto parts or other cheapo brands don't conduct inspections because they are all about cutting costs. The manufacturer's in China know who is checking and who doesn't.
However, incoming inspections can not detect all problematic materials.
