remove the plastic cover cap with a small flathead, the then a 10m socket from whet I recall.
Might hit it with some wd-40 or powerblast and let it sit a bit. Start rocking it side to side and it'll come right off. Refrain from wanting to "pry" it off.
Special tools,,no. BUT it is a very awkward system. I got the fancy composition 1 piece Trico blades(like the Bosch). Bought them at Advanced Auto Parts. After fumbling with them had to sheepishly have them do the install.Been wrenching for 45+years done more motors ,trannys than I can remember,,but nowadays every manufacture puts their own little twist on locking systems and couldn't get it!! Go figure!! I don't feel too bad,,1/2 the members here don't even know that vets have wipers!!

When reinstalling takes a hell of a lot of tightning
I removed drivers side. Reinstalled and tightened the nut as tight as I thought was necessary. Turned then on. Arm SLIPPED. Tightened some more. Same result. Tightened UNGODLY AMOUNT to where I thought the shaft would snap. That did it. Never seen any wiper arm that had to be tightened so tight you expect to break the stud.BIGHANK
I used a small pulley puller to remove mine. I wouldn't pry or use a hammer to tap-as was suggested in other threads. Great way to earn a new windshield. A little WD40-and the puller and they'll come off safely after the nut is removed.

A battery post puller works well too. Any hammer needs to be plastic and the tapping needs to be done reasonably gently.
USE ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND ON BOTH THE SHAFT KNURLING AND THE THREADS WHEN REASSEMBLING
