Clicked on the 'ad' for get an answer from a Chevy mechanic, here on the fourm. Where did it say it would cost money?
So now they have my email address but I won't be using the service. I think there needs to be a disclaimer in the ad. Needs to say it costs money
I haven't seen it either. Can you post where it is you clicked?
I actually think it would be ok to pay for information from a mechanic. It needs to be clear what it would cost up front though. This way I could consider if it would be worth the cost to have an answer immediately and not wait for a "free" response to a specific question by posting. Just thinking of a time when I had my engine apart and needed to know something before going further; that was a time when I would have paid for a correct answer.
But to get the answer first and after being told it costs something is wrong altogether. And I don't think you are obligated to pay unless you signed something saying you knew you had to pay. Any legal people out there? (Obviously asking for FREE legal advise on this. )
To be fair, it does request a fee before you submit. It asks "what do you think the answer is worth". Then gives 3 or 4 choices of a fee amount. Then you click on one. My point though was that the ad should have notated that a fee would have been requested. I thought because it was on this forum it was a service where one could get answers (for free). Oh well.
