Default valvetrain noise.............

I just bought a 2002 Z06 that has 18,000 miles on it and noticed that the engine sounds almost like it has solid lifters; is it normal to be able to hear the valvetrain on the LS6 engines?

If you mean that it sounds like a sewing machine...it's normal...nature of the beast...

That is a pretty accurate description, thanks.

I (self installed) put a g5x3, ls2 timing set, comp pushrods and comp 921s in my 2003 z with 30k miles. Still sounds stock, no noise at all from the engine bay. I have heard some very noisy ones though.
