Default Shift Indicator for A4

The shift indicator on my A4 is stuck on 2. Tranny shifts fine but the indicator being in second all the time is a little annoying when I look at it.
Anyone got a fix short of replacing the whole assembly?

Stop looking at it
I read somewhere that you might be able to hook it back up, But you have to take the whole center apart.

Default If you like dissambling and maybe breaking things GO RIGHT AHEAD

I got into my shifting mechanism because the PARK SOLENOID would not release leaving me in the garage running in PARK. I have a vert so I put the top down and disamboweled the console, parts of the dash and finally the shift boot attachment. There are some really funny plastic tabs on this and it took a LONG TIME to unhook them without breaking the whole base or tabs. I disconnected the park solenoid by removing a single connector. The shift indicator is there but it once again is not fun to play with. I left mine ALONE.
If it ain't broke leave it alone. If it isn't BOTHERING ANY FUNCTION once again I choose to leave it alone. If you are loaded with cash go out and buy a new shift mechanism. I'm not Bill Gates so I'm satisfied that I can FEEL which gear I'm in. BIGHANK
