Default trans to diff seal MN12???

Im gonna be installing my RPM 4.10 diff within the week on my 03 Z06. Just wondering if anyone knows what kind of seal or gasket goes between the diff and trans where there mate up. Getting different views and opinions on this. Guys say its different than the automatics.

Why not give RPM a call? I switched mine out this spring and didn't see any seal or gasket. I looked in the book and didn't see one either. Good luck.

theres like a big O ring on the trans where it kind of slides in the diff at that lip....i still added a light bead of ultra black RTV just to be safe...the black RTV is what RPM uses to seal together their diffs as well...youll see a little bit of it where it oozed out of the covers on the diff...410s with the MN12 is gonna be sick...i did 390s with the M12 but wish i did 410s

Same here. Cleaned the sealing surfaces thoroughly, used a new o-ring, and coated very lightly with ultra-black RTV. No leaks.

Thanks a lot to all you fellas! Yeah, I see now some replace that o ring, and some just clean, then light rtv it. For the price of that big o ring, I just might as well get a new one to be on the safe side. The part # I found out is 12369456 I believe. Yeah kurtomac, I think I will like the kick that the 4.10's provide. My Z06 motor is still stock though for now. Always liked gears.

Thanks for the #. I jumped to 3:90 this past spring, wish I would have went 4:10's. Smart move on you!

RPM trans told me I shouldnt have to replace any seal or the o ring, just clean the mating surface! Will do the light bead of black RTV though.

The o ring looked fine to me when I pulled the diff out. I just slid the new diff in and didn't put on any RTV. I'm seeing a few red drops(trans) now, very few and inbetween. I hope the the trans fluid isn't mixing with the rear diff fluid? I wonder if some one would know the answer on this?

The transmission is a sealed assembly... the o-ring only seals the open side of the diff. If you're seeing red drops, it's probably coming from somewhere else, like the drain plug, fill plug, etc. If the tranny is overfilled, it can puke fluid out of the vent on top, and it will run down all over the place.

Crawl under there with a rag and some brake cleaner and clean the tranny and diff cases thoroughly. That should allow you to pinpoint the source of the leak.

Thanks, what was I thinking? When I pulled the diff, the tranny still had the old fluid in it. If it wasn't sealed from the diff, it would leaked all over when I pulled the diff away from it.
