Default Bad brake job?

Recently had the dealer install new factory brake pads and turn the rotors. Everything works fine, no squeaking etc, but I noticed today a 3/16th rust ring around the outside diameter of the rotors and the inside diameter as well on all four wheels. It appears as if the pads are slightly too small. Doesn't look very nice and I doubt it is normal. Any thoughts?

That's one of the things that happens when someone resurfaces a rotor. The special zinc coating was removed.

I would not resurface a rotor, if it had a problem I would replace it.

I agree. Rotors (most of them) are cheap enough that you can just replace them without too much of a hit to your wallet.

I guess I just don't understand why you'd go to a dealer for that.

You can easily fix this. Just use some sandpaper or steel wool to remove the rust. Then prime the area and once the primer is dry put a couple of coats of flat or satin black. Do the whole center area (the hat) and the small area at the edge of the rotor. Don't worry about being real neat or masking off for the area where the pad will cover because the first few times you use the brakes the pads will wipe the paint off that area.

Oh by the way that normal when you do a brake job.
