Default Another TPM sensor question.

Can anyone tell me if 2001-2004 C5 TPM sensors will work on an older (1999) C5?
I bought a set of C6 Z06 style wheels for my ’99 and the machined in reliefs on the inside of the wheels are too small for the ’99 sensors. The 2001-2004 sensors appear to be slightly smaller (more square) than the earlier ones, not to mention cheaper. The C6 sensors look to be close to the same size as the early C5 sensors, so I’m surprised the ‘99s did not fit. I would also guess that the later C5 sensors would be more likely to be able to be read by a ’99 C5 than the C6 sensors would be.

Also, the early C5 sensors can be triggered on and read in the learning routine by the use of any strong magnet placed at the base of the valve stem. Can the later C5 sensors be triggered on the same way, or do you have to have a special tool. I’m pretty sure the C6 sensors are triggered by a radio signal from a scan tool.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes you can use the late model (01-04) sensors on your '99. You need to replace the receiver and you will need new fobs. You can get everything from Gene Culley.

Without changing the other stuff, the '01-04 sensors will not work with what you have on your car now. Did the vendor for the wheels say your sensors would work? If so, I'd be contacting them and finding out what can be done.

With a lot of brain damage, yes they will work.

Thanks guys, but I'm still confused. If I go to the '01-'04 sensors do I have to upgrade the receiver and key fobs as well?

Thanks,
Steve

Yes.

Pick up the receiver and the 01-04 sensors from Gene at gmpartshouse.com but buy the fobs from ebay, you can usually find them brand new for about $15 -$20 shipped.
