Default Rear axle lube

I want to do a drain and refill on my 273 rear end,can anyone tell me what to ask for as far as synthetic axle lube and is it wise to use Amsoil and 4 oz of limited slip additive.

you use the amsoil with out the additive. that's what I did on my 2000 about a month ago. Used the severed gear. with the paper blocker rings (2000 and older) the amsoil seemed to be the best choice.

I think he is talking about transmission fluid...

for gear oil

It has the additive already in it

SAE 75w-140 takes to bottles. Fill till it drips out the fill hole

Peace

Mobil One synthetic seems to work pretty well in mine,no friction modifier needed.
Kinda hard to tell in the differential, though -not like the tranny, where you can actually feel some improvement over dino oil...

Gene culley hooked me up with the new stuff GM is using in the c6. It has the friction modifier in it.

I drained Mobil 1 and replaced with Mobil 1. Too noisy for my taste. Drained a few days later and filled with Royal Purple. Quiet as a church mouse for months now. RP and Amsoil are great choices. RP comes with the LS additive so no need to purchase the additive.

Hi There:
Is gm p/n 88862624 still the latest dextron ls gear oil required for the differential? Are the 4ozs. of modifier required using the gm fluid? Is there a better tool or a pump to use? I used the flo tool which screws onto the bottle? I used this 12" plastic tube extension to do the tranny refill & it was a pita to hold the end of the tube in the hole while squeezing the bottle with the other hand. You also don,t get all the fluid out of the bottle.
Thanks for any good advice.

Redline Gear OIl is the only way to go.
It will seal up axle leaks also.

I use AMSOIL in both my 02 Z06 track car and my 06 CTS-V daily driver without extra additive and neither diff chatters. For the C5, I do not recommend extra additive (note for the C6 I do recommend one bottle of the additive).
AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic 75w90 (Product Code SVGQT)

Comes in handy for the DIYers:
AMSOIL Hand Pump (Product Code G2039)

I changed mine this weekend and on Chips advice went with RP,I just unscrewed the bottom plug and let it drain, then unscrewed the top fill plug and filled.

Hi Buckwheat:
What did you use to transfer the rp fluid into differential? Not quite 2qts. correct? Modifier already mixed in?
Thanks
