Guys I have searched and it seems that the nitto nt05 seems to be the best tire for the z06?
This will be my daily driver and the car I am looking to buy has the GY/SC tires still on it and unfortunately I will be driving this car on the highway and yes in rain , but don't think I want to trust the GY/SC tires. Will the Nitto NT05's be the best bet for me. I don't plan to track it, just simply cruise around town and jump on the highway when I go to work.
In terms of the NT05 where is the best place to purchase a set for the front and back online?
well I can't find a front matching nitto nt05 for some reason? Anybody help me out where they bought there's?
You will need a 275/40 17 in the NT05. They don't make a 265. They do make a 295/35 18 for the rear. I bought mine from a local Atlanta dealer.
I was one of the first board members to purchase these back in March. By next weekend I will have had 3 track days on these tires, plus about 2500 miles of street driving. I should be able to make 1 more track day in November before they are finished off. That a TON of abuse for such a sticky tire.
I predict the NT05 will become the tire of choice for C5 Z owners. I don't think I will ever buy another tire. They really are THAT good. Especially if you are looking for a tire that can double for HDPE events.
If you don't drive your Z the way it was intended, the NT05 may not be your best choice.
So I could run a 275 on the stock front tire of 265 with no problems?
We'll then what would be the best set that will fit the current 265/295 configuration that will keep me safe on the highway in the rain as my daily driver?

The sizes you need are 275/40 17 and 295/35 18. Like I mentioned above, if you don't drive your Z hard or at HPDE events you may want to search elsewhere. Although rain performance on these are better than the GY F1 SC's, I would not consider it there strong point.
If you want a wet performance tire, go with the Michelin.
If you don't mind spending the money, Michelin PS2's are considered by many, including OEM manufacturers and tire retailers, the best you can buy. They are also excellent in wet weather. When I had the original GY/SC's I find them scary in heavy rain. The Michelins feel glued down in wet weather, if that's a concern. They ain't cheap but they have an incredible array of different sizes.
got the firestones on and they do well in rain and ok for dry, had kuhmo mx and really liked them for dry work, never used in the rain though, not a fan of ps2 or the manufacturer for that matter.
I hated the MX in rainy weather, and that was on my AWD Subaru. Never would try them on a Vette.
I do like my Vredestein tires for an all around street tire for the vette. It was strange buying a brand I'd never heard of before, but they are great.

A comment: I bought my 2002 Z from my neighbor with Nitto 555R2's on it, and went to NT05's last weekend (555R2's being a bit much for a DD). The NT05's are definitely quieter, the ride is a little smoother, but the sidewalls are a little softer and they're probably not as sticky... which is exactly what you'd expect, of course. My point is that for track days, NT05's might be good but 555R2's are definitely better. For a DD, the NT05s seem to be pretty good so far.

And I would be completely agree with that statement.
I was trying to find a compromise between an R compound tire and a streetable tire. I have NT01's on my other track car and have loved them. The NT05's are certainly not as sticky, but they are perfect for the occasional HPDE and carry a longer lifespan than the NT01 or NT555's.

Such a compromise tire was what the Supercars were supposed to be.
It's too bad Goodyear can't provide us an update.
Michelin PS2's on mine. Expensive, but I love them. Why put something inferior for traction on your car? Tires are the final and only connection of your car to the road. Good traction = better braking, acceleration, and cornering. Only other tires I'd put on my Corvette are Michelin Pilot Cups or on track day Hoosier R6's.

Those are great tires, but the larger sizes are amazingly overpriced. I don't know if they make them in stock ZO6 sizes, but I'm really loving my new Nitto Invos....much quieter than Michelin PSs, and alot stickier.
