Default Considering A C5

Currently own a beautiful 96 LT1 with no problems but considering a C5. I've heard of issues with C5's with the only one coming to mind is battery drains. What are the issues with C5's and their year.

The only issue I have is I don't drive it enough. 2000 miles per year just doesn't cut it. Best car I have ever owned.

To get rid of a beautiful car with no problems and get into a car that might have issues is probably something you don't want to do. You might get a lemon.....and than again, mabey not. Perfect knowledge does not mean your decision will work out......sometimes you need to be lucky.

My best advise is....if you like the c-5 buy the c-5. Deal with the issues later ( if there are any).

2002 here with no issues.
Look for the newest with the lowest miles and you will be set.
Depending on what year you get I would look into getting the CLB for sure.

Common problems include rocking seats, leaking rear differential seals, column lock, headlight motor gears, oil consumption (mainly in some '01 6-speed cars). I've got some Word files - including a Buyers Checklist - that might help you out. If interested, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send them to you.

I currently have a '72 and a '79. Enjoy them both, but been thinking about getting a C5 too. Thought I pop in and start a thread about possible C5 problems and found this one. I appreciate any input.

I have an 01' bought it 4 yrs ago 19k miles. No issue with the oil - had to replace the battery but it was the original. New tires at 22k. Other than that get in it and go and see all the people looking.

I've had 3 c-5s and had no major issues with any of them! Two were "97s" and were great cars. I owned 9 c-4s and they seemed to have more problems over all [windows, dashlights, headlight motors,u-joints etc...]. but still pretty good cars. The c-5 is however a much better car in every way! It rides better, steers better, accellerates faster, gets better milage [30mpg highway], and doesn't rattle! I'm not knocking the c-4, just being realistic. If you havent driven a c-5 do so, you will never look back!

only problem issue I had was the Column lock recall...other than spending way too much money on mods....
