I've done it at least a dozen times. here's a tip: put some protective tape over your radio readout lens to prevent scratching it while you wrestle with the bezel and the hvac.
The display, bulbs or both? If you don't want to DIY it JW Motoring can fix it for you...

The bezel one is simular, but then goes on to remove the entire dash, which is 100% unnecessary. The only step that needs added to my link is removing the two screws that hold the HVAC in place.
On a side note, I also added some insulation under the center console when I had it all off. You might want to consider that as well. I used the Frost King as pictured, but I only did the area aroung the console and shifter. i did not that out the seats and all the carpet as pictured: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...at-shield.html
