[Z06] 01 Z06 Not Starting Everytime ???

yes, the starter is damaged by the heat from the exhaust and solenoid seizes up from the heat.
you can wrap the exhaust where it goes past the starter and/or put a shield over the starter when you replace it to prevent the issue in the future.

yep. you would need to unbolt and remove the whole section through, so more work. although removing the exhaust entirely makes starter install a lot easier.
if you track the car on a regular basis and seeing high exhaust temps, esp with aftermarket headers, I would do both.
that starter shield part is overpriced by 500% for what it is, you could probably achieve the same result by cutting and bending a thin stainless steel sheet and puting it over the starter with a metal zip tie type of thing.

Hello Everyone! Just bought my 1st vette. 01 Red Z06.
Previous owner kept up car very well! He said he has had a problem with the car not starting before. He told me it sometimes wouldnt do anything when he turned the key but hed keep messing with it then itd finally turn over. Needless to say it started doing it to me Yesterday. I would have to continuously turn the key and finally it would start up.
really aggravating when Im taking the Inlaws for Rides lol.
Please help me out.
Not sure if I need to change the SWITCH,IGN & START
or the cylinder????

I eliminated the ignition switch by cleaning all the contacts but still I have the same problem. Now I can't get it to start at all so starter and solenoid are my next choice to get checked.

Well Its at the Dealer and it starts fine every time for him...
I stopped in and tried and it starts every time. I am going to have him replace the starter and put a Heat shield around the starter and solenoid ....Hopefully that will work!

New update. Starter is not installed.
Dealer says the headers have to be loosened and didnt want to leave me with out it for the weekend.
I will take it back Monday and let him fool with it!
