Default C5 education

I have owned a C3 for 22 years and two C4s for 4 or 5 years total and basically learned a lot about them all just by owning them. Now comes the C5 I just got and I know NOTHING (or very little). So tell me if this is normal. I had a small leak at the trunk hinge (it's a convertible). I noticed the hinge bolt was not all the way in, but was tight. Seemed cross threaded. I took it out, put a dab of sealant on the threads and re-installed. I tested it and no leak. HOWEVER, when I poured water in the channel to test it, water poured out around the side marker. Is that RIGHT?? I checked the other side...same thing. That seems crazy wrong to me. Help educate me.

Hmm, I didn't think it was that tough a question. 40 views and no one knows if water is supposed to drain around the side markers?

the side maker's electronics and the lens itself are sealed if the light is installed properly. so whether or not its supposed to pour out of there it won't hurt anything. however I'm not sure how well the seal really works. I see some moisture spots on the inside of mine. again it hasn't hurt anything...at least not yet. I do believe that if you pour water right on the inside of it it will run out around the lens. nothing to worry about.

Water is not suppose to come out the marker lights.

No sure on a vert, but coupes have a drainage area by the base of the window on both sides. Water drains into utters and out to the ground.

I bet you utters (if verts have them) are cloggeed

Peace
Chip

The dealer showed me where the drains are from the top, but not where the udders are underneath. It seems I should be able to get to them from underneath near the mufflers. It was a strange thing. I poured about 2 cups of water and it drained right out, but it ALL came out where the side markers are. nothing toward the doors, only to the rear and exactly out of the circumference of the light. I don't have the right tools to jack it up. I have a hydraulic floor jack, but it does not have a post or anything to locate it correctly on the frame or pucks or whatever. I can try and lay under the back and see what I can see. Does anyone know of diagrams that locate all of the udders? Like an assembly manual maybe?

not supposed to flow out the markers. i have an 04 vert and so far haven't experienced you r problem, the utters should be above the mufflers. it is possible that they utters somehow wound up bent toward the inner fenders and the water is running down inside to the marker. since that would be the first point of exit, it is running around the marker unit and out. it may also be that the utters are gone and that is the path of the draining water. admittedly just a guess on my part, however.

Remove one of the outer tail lights and look inside. You have access to the side marker lights that way.

Great idea ! I'll do this. It is a super clean low mile, unmolested car and "appears" to have been kept in a garage and out of the elements, so I would be surprised to fing cloggedor missing udders, but all things are possible. THANKS !!!

The few times in the past when I've had my own outer tail lights out to install led bulbs in my side markers, or for some other reason, I don't recall seeing any "udder".

FWIW, the FRCs (like mine) and the verts share a some of the same "booty" parts () like trunk lids, hinges, weatherstripping etc.
