Default Oil tempertature

Hey Guys... I need a little information. My 2003 runes about 220 degree oil temp at 80 mph is that normal? I was told that it should not go over 212, Do I have a problem? All the best to you and yours....JB

I perasonally would prefer my oil temp to be over 212 at least a little to help boil out any water from condensation (short trips) that might be in the oil. 220 is no problem for oil, quailty synthetics can go much higher than that with no breakdown.

I'm in AZ and the oil temperature is what I keep displayed on the DIC all the time.

It averages about 214-220 in stop and go driving on the way out of town. But it has hit 250 degrees during elevation climbing from 5,200ft to over 7,000ft at low speed in a lower gear (1-2) behind slower moving traffic. Dropping the rpms with a higher gear (3-4) slows the progress of temperature increases. The LSx motor has the torque to handle the slower speed in a higher gear. Once the air is clear and I can resume at least 40-45mph (winding road), the oil temperatures drop back down to normal.

If you see really high oil temperatures routinely, it might be of concern and consider more frequent oil changes. Otherwise, it's normal...

I normally see 210-220 around town here. 260+ at the track though.

When you see 300 degrees, then it's time to think about doing something about it. 220 is absolutely 100% normal and wonderful.
