Hey guys, I bought another cluster for my 97 because all my gauges were way off. This cluster I bought is from a 99 corvette. I noticed that when I open the door the gauges light up till I turn the key. Also when I turn the car off the cluster will light up again and stay lit for maybe 10 seconds and then turn off. It also makes my HVAC thing light up also. It's like it has some timer or something. Mine never did do this before. Is something screwed up or is it supposed to do this?
That doesn't tell me where you are getting power from. Under hood fuse panel? Under kick plate fuse panel? Splice? Tapped? Which wires? and to what? I see "plugged" ..but to where?

I'm not quite sure what you are sayin. There is a big plug in on the back side of the factory gauge cluster. I unplugged it and removed the original cluster because it wasn't reading right. The 1999 cluster I bought plugs in to the back the exact same as my stock 97 cluster. There was no cutting or splicing of any kind. This is not an aftermarket gauge set.

I had GM change the miles on my car, What you have to do is leave the car with them and they will send it out to be reprogramed, Believe it or not, I was told that it is a fedral offence to have an incorrect mileage dash on the car. Not sure if it is true. I believe the correct mileage is stored in one of the computers, Maybe the BCM?

I called a friend that work at GM and he told me he thought he could change it with his tech 2 thing. He said that the new trucks are blank on the odometer so they have to set them before they go up for sale. I know nothing about it but that's just what he said
To keep legal, you really should get the mileage updated right away. I don't know about your smog laws there, if any at all, but here, its connected to a system that reports the mileage to the state. You don't need the problems if what the records and what the car shows are different.

we don't have any smog tests here but I want to get it right anyway. My friend told me to come down to the dealer next thursday so he can get it set correct
You could have swapped the mother board to transfer the mileage data to your new IPC BUT the original problem would preobably follow into your new cluster...
I would play it safe and have someone with a Tech II adjust the mileage for you as the new cluster appears to be working correctly.
