I wonder what type of chemical is in techron and diluted with the gasoline i wonder how effective it is to the ls-1 if it cleans the injectors it must have something in it that tears down the build up....i dont know ive always been suspect of those fuel system cleaners.......
Like someone just said, it's the same stuff that you get for free in the better quality fuels. I have never understood why someone who buys a high quality automobile will buy low quality gas to burn in it!

Sometimes you have to. Chevron and Texaco are not available within 20 miles of my home. So, I typically use Shell or Amoco which I think are quality gasolines but I'm sure someone will disagree.
Now here's the thing. After a while, my gas gauge goes south. I dump in Techron, and no gas gauge problems for the next 5-10 fill ups. So I too would love to know why it works and why the additives in brands other than Chevron and Texaco do not do the job

Don't know what's in it. But I can tell a difference in how everything runs when I use it. Lawn mower, motorcycle, DD, Vette, they all seem to run smoother.
I fear this will cause flames......but I grew up around oil refineries in Texas and many times watched all the name brand gas tankers fill up at the same refinery, on the same tanks as the generic tankers. Unless the special additives are added at the stations or perhaps at a local distributor, I can't see how they get in gas that all comes from the same tanks.
BTW, I do add Techron and sometimes Seafoam to my gas tanks.

i stop at any station and get gas and i dont have any problems!
i will try some techron tomorrow and let you guys know if i notice any difference
I'm not sure how anyone can get 'real world' conclusive data on a particular brand of gasoline and how it affects one's car.
Virtually all the biggies share terminals and pipelines. Just because you pumped it AT Chevron, doesn't guaruntee that it's actually fuel from a Chevron refinery. Therefore, you may have Exxon gas at the BP/Amoco and vice-versa, etc, etc. And many times the detergent is added to the fuel truck just prior to leaving the terminal by whatever brand thats destined for delivery.
The additives or detergents is required by the government(EPA), and the brands just market it as they deem neccessary.

jrprich....
At the "wholesale rack" the industry phrase for the bulk fuel terminal where everyone's tanker picks up their gasoline, there is a "loading rack" ( a gas pump for tankers), the driver swipes a mangetic striped card that says which brand of gas he is picking up.
The computer recognizing the card opens the valves and turns on the pumps for the proprietary additive system associated with that brand and injects the " proprietary detergency package concentrate" into the pipe filling the tanker.
Every one shares the same raw fuel.
the cheapy brand use it as is, the top tier brands inject their own proprietary addiyives at the loading rack.
many other gasoline brands used to use Techron...some still do but I bet many came up with other alternatives...what's the concentration on Techron or other additives in the gas you buy...you get some idea when you buy a bottle of Techron...there are many who seem to think (kind of debunked above though) that all gasoline is the same...if this is so, how is some clear, pink hue, other colors???...even if you subscribe to the "add a color" and it means nothing...how would you make colored gasoline clear???...I try to use gasoline from good stations that look clean and hope the fuel truck didn't leave moments before I arrived...I never fill up when they get a shipment (stir in the tanks)...I use Techron from time to time...no problems yet...perhaps that is just luck but so far...

I subscribe to the theory that they are most all the same, maybe some differences like one said at the card swipe, but, still pretty much the same gas. What I do agree with though is choosing a station that has new tanks, and pumps. I also stay away from that station when the truck is there filling the tanks up because of the stir factor. I use Techron about every 10-15 tankfulls and it did clear up my gas guage problem and it hasn't returned. The station is more the problem in my opinion.
