Last nite 2001 Vette quit on me while driving around town. It was like i turned the key off. One minute going along fine, next car is dead. Starter would turn over, car just would not start. After setting for 1/2 hour, started and ran few minutes and quit again. Another 1/2 hr. again started and was driven approx. 2 miles when again quit. This time after 2 hours could not get to start and had to call tow truck. Now setting at garage where today was told car is running perfect and they can not find anything wrong. Might add the the turn signals started to work at times, then would not work just b/4 this happened. Any ideas or suggestions?

I'm sure someone will answer who knows more than me. The first thing you should do is pull the codes off the DIC and look them up. You can find the info on how to do it here in the forum. But this sounds very similar to what happened on an older Chevy truck I owned. It was the ignition module (inside the distributor). Cheap and easy to fix. On the truck anyway.

Like I said someone a whole lot smarter is sure to answer you shortly.

Sounds like you have a GROUND Issue!

You will need to check "ALL" grounds on the Vette - there is a writep-uo on this in the sticky section - under electrical issues

Thanks,Matt

Need to see what DTCs are set.

Could be a ground issue. There are a number of them on the vehicle and they appear
as harness connectors. There is one just ahead of the washer fluid reservoir on the frame rail. Do a search on the grounds and you should find several that point out the location. If you have the FSM locate the grounds and then confirm they are all in good shape.

The intermittent signal might be your clue.

Otherwise had it not been for that I'd be looking at a PCM that has become heat soaked.

Default Pull the Diagnostic codes - go from there

How to Enter Diagnostic Mode

The "diagnostic display" mode is entered with the following procedure:

1) Turn on the ignition but don't start the engine.

2) Press the "reset" button to turn off any warning messages

3) Press and hold "options"

4) While holding "options", press "fuel" four times within a 10-second period.
When first engaged the on-board diagnostics go into an "automatic" mode which shows all parameters: PCM-TCS-RTD-BCM-IPC-radio-HVAC-LDCM-RDCM-SCM-RFA. If there are no problems, you will see "no more codes" on the ICP display.

The computer will show two kinds of codes, "current" and "history," designated "C" or "H". A current code indicates a malfunction is present in the system whose module is displaying data. A history code indicates a past problem.

When the screen displays "manual diagnostics," select the desired module by pressing the "options" button to go forward or the "trip" button to go back. Press "gages" to go forward or "fuel" to go back.

To exit the diagnostic mode at any time, press "E/M". If you want to erase or "clear" codes, press "reset."

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Will definitely show copies of each to the mechanic Monday A.M. Will let you know what turns up. The Forum really rocks.

Don't know it this would make a difference, but you were running it at night with a full load, lights, a/c and all. Today did the mechanic run it with the same "full load," and it ran perfect?

Hope things get fixed.
