If you're talking about the date code, its 4 numbers with the first 2 being the week and the last 2 the year built

is this stamped into the sidewall?

is this an industry standard or only GY? thanks

This is the industry standard. Look for the DOT box. The last four numbers will be the week and year of manufacturing.
Exmple: 3508 would be the 35th week of 2008

I think that mine was stamped on the inside of the tire if I remember correctly. Could be wrong though.

yes, on my GYF1's they are under the 18" mark

for dd purposes is there an age limit we should worry about?

Learned something new today, always read it in the parts section, never new the location or code.....

I don't know if there is really an age limit but when I got my 03 my tires where already almost 6 years old and brittle The car was kinda hairy in lower temps and would kick out very easily with the OE SC's. I broke loose at about 45 mph one time when the temp was close to 50 with a cam only and knew it was time to lose them. It was a great decision.
