Where do you find the date code for the stock type Delco battery??It has all kinds of number/letter codes on top. It has a foam rubber wrap ..is that standard? I bought it used about 1 1/2 years ago,,and after hearing the stories about them I am a bit wary of them,,and don't want to keep an old one in there!! Want to be able to figure out just how old this puppy is!! Thanks!!
Found a couple different explanations, don’t know which if any is correct.

The warranty date code is located on the top label of the battery. The first character is either a P or S. The next two digits determine the month, the third digit is year and the fourth digit indicates the manufacturing plant. For example, P 094N means the battery was made in September 2004 in the New Brunswick factory.

For AC Delco batteries, the date of manufacture is usually stamped on the cover near one of the posts. The first number is the year and the second character is the month (the letters A-M, but skips I) The last two characters indicate the geographic area. For example, 2DN3 = '02 April.
I found the 2nd explanation above to be accurate when I had the AC Delco in my 87 fail almost 1 year to the day from when I bought it for my 87 C4 about 3 year back.
Thanks,,I'll look in the AM. Have dealt with all kinds of after market batteries that had clear tags or punch out tags. Found no stickers or tags. The label had a bunch of letters and numbers that appeared to be model numbers or something. I knew there had to be some kind of date code there. I drive the car a lot,,so it stays charged,,but it was in there when I bought the car 20 months ago,,and reading a lot of the stories about them I figure it's time to check it out BEFORE it causes trouble. The first thing I would want to know is how old it is!! Thanks guys!!
OK,,mine used the first option,,and it is a little over 3 years. It has the S046 in the code= April 06. While it is still in the acceptable voltage range,,it's not holding the voltage level it did last year at this time when I went through the column lock fiasco!! Thinking I will replace it before the rally cold weather gets here as I drive it all year long,,and St.Louis area winters can get a bit bitter!! Want a strong one in there. Thanks again for the info!!
