stock door hinges help!!!
Just looking for some help with my stock Euro-spec C5. Its a 2001, less than 19k miles and since I've owned it (3 yrs) its always had "stiff/rubbing" door hinges: On full opening, the hinges FEEL AND SOUND like their 'RUBBING' and they become a little STIFF the close back (only at the full opening). Is this common? Anyone know what it is and how to fix it? Perhaps it is normal, and I'm being picky?!
The doors seem to have 2 openings: 1st at about 35 degrees - (my doors operate fine on this opening), 2nd at full opening at about 70-80 degrees is where my door start going stiff and have that rubbing sound and feeling.
Here are some things to note:
1. I don't think the doors are sagging(but I could be wrong?)
2. I tried pulling up on the doors on full opening but it doesn't move (no obvious movement), and rubbing/stiffness still exists, unchanged.
3. Door hinges are in excellent condition, like the rest of the car (< 20k miles)
4. No accidents
5. The fault is always there, UNLESS the car is on a horizontal slope - eg, if the car sits on a MINUTE angle on a driveway, where the driver's side sits marginally higher than the passenger, then the driver's side seems to be 'cured' but passenger side still exists.
6. Don't think this should make a difference, but the car is hardly used - I've done 4k miles in it in 3 yrs, sits in a garage.
7. There's no obvious change in how the doors rub within my 3yrs of ownership, but I just want to fix it!
Any help, tips or comments would be appreciated!
Cheers
Sunny
It doesn't really bother me but i did notice that. I wouldn't think the car would flex that much from a slight hill but it does.
I did put some white silicone grease on the hinges when I bought the car, but then I wiped it off 'cos the white grease looked horrible! I'm not sure if I smother on a load of more grease if it will help...or perhaps I should buy a set of new hinges...?
