It's time for me to do my first oil change on my 04 Z06 and I'm not taking it to Jiffy Lube! The previous owner had used Mobil 1 which if I'm not mistaken is Chevy's recommendation......what weight, what brand oil filter?? Any advise before I get under my car for the first time?? Just hoping to head off any surprises before they pop up.
You'll get plenty of opinions on oil. Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Red Line, Valvoline are all good high quality products. Any premium full-synthetic will work just fine. I use Mobil 1 oil and filter.
I just changed mine with Mobil 1 5w-30, and Mobil 1 M1-107 I believe is the filter. Be sure and use have jack stands and blocks. I also tilted the rear up to get all the oil out.
WIX filters, and I just switched to Valvoline Synpower.
As long at it meets the Corvette spec, you should not have a problem. There are oils that are now equal to, and better than, Mobil 1.

Let me add to the thread too. I always use Mobil 1 and Wix filters. Once in a while I have thrown in a Mobil filter because I am too lazy to drive the distance it takes to get the Wix filter.
Well i run M1 10w40 because i track my car, but for street duty i would run 5w30. I run a standard ac delco filter PF46. Any premium synthetic is fine for the car.
When changing your oil, open the drain plug then lower the car so it's level with the ground so that the rest of the oil can escape the pan or you can raise the back to accomplish this. If you don't you will leave 1/2-1 quart of old oil in the pan.
I think specs say 6.5 quarts but go ahead and throw 7 in there. Won't hurt and you will probably burn that half a quart by your next oil change.
One reason TO go to a quick change place is if you don't have a proper way of disposing of the old oil.
I'm not a tree hugger, but people who toss the used stuff in jugs in the trash or pour it on street cracks to kill weeds drive me nutz. That's even with me being a part of the Evil Oil Empire.
Actually, I've found a oil change place that caters to high end cars. The pit monkeys are very knowledgeable, and the service guys on top know their Vettes, Lambos, Porsches, and Ferraris. I don't mind paying the extra to have the oil disposed of properly, and the employees know their cars.
Is there a problem with Fram oil filters that I don't know about? Nobody mentioned they were using them.
I have seen Fram filters cut open compared to many others and their quality is noticeably inferior. I saw this about 3 or so years ago and have never used another. Just do a quick search on it and I am sure you will change your mind.

They use cardboard where quality filters use steel. WIX is a good filter.
