I currently have a 93 Ruby Red Corvette that I am thinking about trading or selling for a used Z06, probably the 2000 or 2001. What problems should I look for when shopping for one? I know that they had (have?) an oil consumption problem. Is there a fix for that now?
No 2000 Z06s, 2001 was the first year. With the possible exception of the oil burning problem I don't believe there were any other problems unique to the Z06. Check the service history of any car your considering and see if there's any history there that might be related to oil burning. I'd avoid an oil burner if possible unless you get a fantastic deal. GM is replacing the rings on confirmed oil burners and that seems to correct the problem. Otherwise check the car out as you would any other Corvette. Good luck.
I think there's more to the oil consumption problem than Speedy. If you were to get an 01 that does burn oil, you would still be covered under warranty (assuming someone hasn't put on 36K in one year). Even if yours did burn oil, 1 qt every two weeks shouldn't have you filing Chapter 11.
No oil problem here.
I think for the total number of cars made in '01 the problem is rare. :smash:
Even if you happen to get one, like Zoomin said, it's covered under warranty.
