CCA GHL catback installed
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I always loved the look and sound of my GHLs, but I had to go with Corsa after the cam, the GHLs just had too much drone, but man did it sound sweet .
I had a set of corsa touring on my car and just put on a set of GHL bullets because I wanted to hear the cam more at idle. Well, to my surprise, the bullets are QUIETER and smoother at idle than the corsas (did not achieve what I wanted at all!). The GHL's are a bit louder when opened up, but not by much. The biggest difference is the drone. Corsa's had absolutely no drone. They were quiet up till about 2500rpm and then got nasty. The GHL's are quiet at idle, drone like a **** around 1500rpm, are really quiet from 1700rpm to 2200rpm, then drone like a **** again. This gives me a speed range from 65mph to about 78mph of drone free cruising. Not so bad, but going up and down the gears in town gets to be too much after 1/2hr of cruising.
I think the GHL's look way better on the car, weigh quite a bit less than the corsa, look like they flow better, and I like the "deeper muscle car sound". Howerver, in my opinion the corsas were much better for a car that gets driven. Quiet cruising and in-your-face when you step on it.
My corsas are going back on and the bullets will be up for sale. This was very disappointing after all that I have read on this forum.
I haven't had a chance to take a before/after video, but will definitely post it up shortly.
Keep in mind this is on a large cam, 447cu car. Your results may vary
It's the aural/harmonic nature of different engine/exhaust setups that determine whether certain catback systems such as Borla, GHL, B&B, SLP, Magnaflow, etc. will resonate undesireably in a range that bothers the driver. Funny, my Borla Stingers droned horribly and made me ill after just 30 minutes of driving until I couldn't stand it but didn't affect my wife at all. In fact, she loved them. I ended up replacing them with Ti's and cutouts and she was not happy I removed them. She's far less sensitive to drone in the NXT's on her C5 also although, those don't really bother me either.
I don't think any exhaust maker makes claims of 100% drone-free systems so one has to expect a certain % of cars to experience it. And people experience different sensitivities to resonance so that's another variable to throw into the mix. A certain amount of uncertainty goes with this mod just as with any other.
Of all the exhausts discussed here, the only three I've never heard complaints about with respect to drone are stock SS, Z06 Ti's and Corsas. Go with any of those and one should remain drone-free whether stock or running a 447 c.i.
As always, this is JMHO.

I'll get my firewire cable today.
Done enough of 'em over the years.

chip and the ghl bullets are the best. Yours look great, just did the same myself, got the tips perfect but could have used your idea for sure. Thanks for sharing
