I'm a little bored with the performance of my stock "99" auto coupe.
It has 3.15 gears and an auto, 54000 miles etc...I'm thinking either 3.42s or 3.73s and a yank 3200 converter, a cold air intake and a dyno tune. What is your best estimate of E.T. for this setup? I put the 3.42s in a "97" stock and on my g-tech it said 12.94 e.t. I hope to do beter than that! Mike Mercury, If you are reading this your opinion is highly regarded as you seem to be a knowlegable fellow Any one with this setup please reply.
Old streetrodder Dave
I just ran my best time 12.79 @112 with 3.15's a vararam and power duct with just a predator tune and corsa catback and a A4,you should do better! btw for the heavier wheels slow you down guys, this is the first time I ran it since switching from factory magnesiums to C6 ZO6 chrome wheels in 18 and 19's! Best I ran before was 12.82.
It's the YANK and 3.42's that will really help - I would not go to 3.73's in an A4 if you go on long trips, they are a little aggressive for the A4, anyway the 3.42's will be a nice upgrade over the 3.15's!
I went from 3.15's to 3.42's and it was well worth it!
It sounds to me like I may not need 3.42s to go into the high 12s! I previously went to 3.42s in my old "97" because it had the anemic 2.73gears which are a "joke" in a Vette. If I can reach my vobjective with out a gear swap I'm lovin it! I have already got the 3.15s and shorty headers which were on the car already when I got it.Maybe with a tune and a c.a.i. I can be in the 12's. Also, does a predator tune eliminate the stupid "torque managment"? . My car has the active handeling/ traction control also, which I try to remember to turn off every time I drive. to you all, Dave
I went from 2.73 to 3.15 to 3.42 and each of the 3 series gear sets were with a Vig 2800 stall.
And I can tell you that I did feel a difference between 3.15 and 3.42.
I wouldn't go higher than 3.42 personally. Beyond that, it really starts to become a 1/4 mile gear. Many opinions there though. I just think the 3.42 is the perfect balance of performance and practicality.
Also, does a predator tune eliminate the stupid "torque managment"?
On my 2000 model you can go into the Predators program and turn the T/M off..You are going to hear alot of pros and cons on this subject but I've had my mine turned off the past couple of years with no problems..
My Predator took an honest .15 off my 1/4 mile ET. My 3.42 upgrade took another .15. Then my lame converter upgrade took a good .1 off the ET. I went from a consistant 13.3x stock... now to 12.8x.
Thanks Mike, I live down here on the Outer banks now but I used to live in Vienna west Va. I raced in the old "gas" classes [d-g] back in the 60's at National Trails [Colombus] raceway with a 55 chevy. I also ran a "57" Vette in modified production with a "301" with hillborn injection and a b&m hydro, 5.13 gears etc... They were great days and Ohio was the king state for gassers! Now after many streetrods and drag cars I'm just an old fart who still likes the feel of accelleration!
Still kicken, Dave
