Default Bg44k????

I was at Carlisle and the mechanic from GM trouble shooting session recommended BG44K to reduce the marble noise when starting my 01. Anyone know who carries it and the cost of a bottle. It goes in the tank or the crankcase??

BG 44K is a fuel injector cleaner. Is that what the GM mechanic was recommending?

While I have never used the oil additive, the fuel injector cleaner is second to none. I have never needed it in my Vettes, but I have used it in many other cars and it works very well. I would think the oil additive would work well based on that.

A local Nissan Dealership carries it in my town in the parts department. I use it (gas treatment) from time to time to help keep my fuel gage working properly.

I have a can or two of this stuff in my garage, bought it from the local chevy dealer when I was ordering stuff to do a 30k on my truck. They recommended it, but I haven't used it yet. Guess I'll try it with my next oil change on my truck first

I also thought it was a injection cleaner and that Carlisle presentation was to reduce the carbon build up and claimed this was a sure product for the start up slaps.

You should be able to get it at NAPA. I know they carry the FI cleaner.

Hi Fred:
I have used the bg44k f/injection cleaner since 71 with excellent results. As Gideon's test stated only sold & bought at dealers. Was not aware of the oil additive.

BG 44K® Power Enhancer®
BG 44K® Power Enhancer® safely, rapidly and thoroughly removes engine deposits in combustion chambers, intake manifolds, ports and on valves. It restores flow in fuel injectors and cleans the entire fuel system. BG 44K® Power Enhancer® improves fuel economy and reduces exhaust emissions. It restores that “like new” driveability to an engine’s performance and keeps it running better, longer and more efficiently. Add one can or bottle to fuel tank at fill up. Catalytic converter and oxygen sensor safe. NOTE: After cleanup with BG 44K® Power Enhancer,® regular use of BG Supercharge®II, Part No. 202, in gasoline engines or BG Diesel Fuel Conditioner with DPL, Part No. 2276, in diesel engines will prevent deposits from forming in the fuel system and upper engine for maximum driveability and fuel economy.
Part No. 208
Part No. 208A 11 oz. (325 mL) can
11 oz. (325 mL) bottle

======================================== =================
I'm a longtime fan of BG products...
Its the best stuff I've ever used...and yes, they make an oil additive>>> "BG MOA®, a premium engine oil additive with deposit inhibitors"

BG also has other products....

Heres where you can get it...

NAPA sells it for around $22. a can. I buy it there regularly. NAPA stores are independently owned, so perhaps my local store became a dealer.

If piston slap is annoying, you pour a can in with a full tank. For me, the piston slap is gone inside of 250 miles and won't come back for two or three tank refillings. Good stuff, if you use regular gas, it won't make much difference, but if you use premium fuel you will see and a hear a difference.

Hey, I was there too! I was the guy with the Corvette shirt.

I agree, the seminar by Corvette Mechanic was an hour well-spent. He recommended Techron Plus as a fuel injector cleaner and remedy for sulfur contamination of the fuel gauge probes, said BG 44 would clean carbon from the combustion chambers wheras Techron would not.

I was just at the Chevron website. They say Techron will clean combustion chambers and reduce deposit-related knocking and pinging. Techron goes in the gas tank, so does BG 44.

BG products also sells BG ISC Induction System Cleaner, which is injected into the air intake with a special apparatus, to "quickly and safely clean fuel injectors and remove hard, baked-on carbon deposits from intake ports, intake valves and combustion chamber." Dealers want about $150 for the service.

Corvette Mechanic also talked about top tier fuels and the fact that not all brands of gas have the level of detergency recommended by auto manufacturers to minimize buildup of deposits on the injectors, valves and combustion chambers. Google "top tier gas" to find out more.

As luck would have it, I started experiencing detonation knock on light acceleration and hot engine operations (200+ degrees) this weekend, first noticed it Friday after being stuck in traffic with a lot of hot engine idling (220-230 deg) due to the I-81 closure (I'm running 93 octane, but we don't have any top tier gas brands available back home).

Things got better after I filled with Turkey Hill premium (a top tier brand from a Carlisle-area convenience store, who'da thunk it!) and a 200 mile run back home including a nice carbon-clearing WOT launch onto I-81 along the way. Will add a bottle of Techron this weekend and see if things improve further.
