Just did my first gas mileage check and it wasn't to good at 14.88. I've got on it a couple of times but not that much. I've even gone for the 1-4 shift a few times. I'm pretty much a grandpa driver in town. My drive is about 19 miles one way consisting of 6 miles at 55, 8 miles at 45, 3 miles at 30-35, and a mile at 20. Throw in the ocaisional school bus in the 45 and 55 areas.
Estimated mileage on the instrument says 16.7. Not good but better than 14.88.
I'm not sure I got it full for the test cause the gauge reads past the full mark now and the fill up before that was right on the full mark.
Stock 01 Z and I get 16.5 around town. I've had it since 7/31/09. I never hit the 1 to 4 shift. I have seen the light a couple times but thats it. I shift out of 1st at just over 2k.
If you do mostly highway driving then your avg will be higher. My average MPG was 16.3 when I left for Carlisle which is 160 miles. When I arrived it was up to 20.1. I would estimate that cruising in 6th gear you might get 28-30 MPG. Not bad for a high performance sports car??
I get 15ish around town stop an go stuff. On the freeway or on a road trip 28+. Been that way for 42000 miles.I haved noticed when I can get 92 octane gas (when Im not in CA)the milage is better
Last May I had to transport some family back and forth between Charlotte NC & Columbia SC..Each round trip was 127 miles.I did this 3 times in 2 days and driving the speed limit( City 45 and Interstate 60-70) I averaged 34.3 for the 3 trips in my mostly stock 02Z.
I did the math...did not use the DIC.
Not typical of everyday driving, but mostly loafing on the interstate it can be done.
Just did a run to the beach that had about 30 miles of my regular driving then 120 miles at 70 with a few slow downs to 35 passing through po-dunk towns. Did 24.8
I don't like the 1-4 shift. IMO that's the worst on ecomony. I do the 1-3-5-6 shift. I hardly use 2 and 4. I'm averaging 18.9 MPG with 90% street driving. I hardly EVER drive on the freeway. The DIC is accurate, btw. If you're driving a Z06, put her in 6th gear when you're doing at least 40MPH. I get my best mileage at 45MPH in 6th gear. The Avg bounces between 40 and 45MPG on a flat straight.
You could also have something wrong with your car. Keep in mind that if you're not getting on her a lot, you could have some carbon build up that will also hinder your mileage. I'd WOT her at least once a week. I do drive mine like it's meant to be driven. Sometimes I keep her in first and run up the RPMs slowly to about 3500 and then nail it! (Mmmmm I love that feeling) and then shift into second and do it again! No carbon build up in mine!
Around town my DIC average normally reads 18-20mpg and that consists of driving normal most of the time but flogging the car at least 2 times really good every time it is driven.
The first two tanks of gas after buying my car and getting it back home the average was 10-13mpg.
I keep track of miles, mpg, avg mph on every fill-up. I even have this info from track days. Your numbers are low provided you truly drive as stated. However you need to look at the avg mph to get the real story. If the number is in the 20's then you do more stop and go driving than you realize. I average 32mph and 21mpg for a 30mi round trip every day. For those wandering, I got 85mi in at the track last time out (2.25mi track) and averaged 7mpg. My car is 100% stock including the air in the tires.
I just bought mine but I got 30.3mpg according to the DIC on a 250 mile trip from KY to TN. Stop and go for about 30miles of it. I cruised at 75-80 for about 150 miles of the trip 65-70 for anotehr 50 and probably 40-45 for the remainder in the city. I was easy on her though, I let CAGS do its thing on all but maybe 2 shifts.
