I see that once in a blue moon, but the owners manual says to turn the ignition off and restart which should clear the condition. My '93 C4 had the same issue from time to time, and its owners manual said the same thing. It has happened two times in about three year's time in the '01. Both times a restart clears it.

It happened about three times in the C4 and only one time did it come on while driving the C4, so I pulled over, stopped and cycled the ignition which cleared the condition. On the '01 it happens before I complete a start cycle, you get a chime right away. So I just cycle the ignition and it is fine.

Wonder what the problems are/were in the EBCM that they are fixing? Bad IC, circuit by pass, resistor pack, connector???

There have been a lot of posts about the EBCM problem. The unit has circuit boards inside - all potted in place by a mass of silicone sealant. One weak link is a small 12v power supply relay soldered into the bottom board that is often balky - works one time, may not the next time. It is a cheap part ($1.46 each from Mouser Electronics) but it takes some doing to replace it. Yours sounds like mine started out - rarely acting up. But it gradually got worse - and I got sick of pushing the reset and driving with ABS, etc. disabled. Mine seemed to be fine on a cold start, but would often fail on a warm restart. Cheap relays are often behind electrical gremlins - door locks are another case.

David Ruberg (the Minnesota EBCM repair guy) says they replace the relay - and make some other changes. Take care, Dick B.
