Has happened to a few members here as well as on other types of cars. My 86 TA, for instance. Turned on my A/C on High one hot Ft Lauderdale afternoon and BOOM!
I mess around with older BMWs a bit and they had this issue with many of the 80s models when it got cold. Owner turns on defroster and POP, broken window.
I do think there must have been a defect in the glass.
Kind of like how if you have ever had a cracked windshield and if it sets out in the hot sun and you spray it with a garden hose, the crack races across it at light speed. Yeah I have done it and its cool to see (but only when you know insurance is replacing it).
One of the few things insurance in FL is good for...by state law all auto glass is covered at no cost.
