I have a 2001 convert. The shocks are not performing and I have been told by a chevy dealer that the cost of replacement is about 4500 bucks. The cost is 870 bucks each for the units. Is there a viable substitute or alternative fix?
For $4500, you can have coil overs, new anti-sway bars and a great night in Vegas. Do not buy the F55 or F45 shocks. Someone smarter than me will chime in and tell you the best set to get.
Bilstein Sports all the way....very firm to go with my Z51 suspension...cheaper than stock...I paid 285 for a set...plus the are lifetime warranty and built for the track....just my 2 pennies....

Don't know about the cost of shocks for your car but I'm going with Bilstein Sports when I replace mine, but $4500 to replace them is one reason why I never take my Z to the dealer. I'm fortunate to have A&A in Oxnard and i called them several weeks ago to ask about shock replacement and Andy said he had a set of Bilsteins used that I could have for about $200 for the set and would install them for $30 each...thats why I take my Z to him. No wonder GM is bankrupt!
By the way, I also replaced the shocks myself, so if you have a floor jack and basic tools you can do it too!! i cant believe they looked you in the face and told you 4500.....wow!!!
