if you could, if you dont mind...please list the mileage and what you paid for your vette. every bloody vette in my area is overpriced, and i just want to make sure im not crazy.
my budget...18k. i have a 97 m3 thats minty to trade in and i cant find a decent vette to make a deal on yet. well one, a 99 FRC thats a base bones car, that needs a few small things, but other than that....zip.
i got my 99 frc with bose sound and power drivers seat with 94K miles for $14,200 in full. bought it in march of this year. it was bone stock with a single owner who was a college professor. the only problem it had was the passenger side power locks wouldnt unlock, and the wagon wheels were all curbed. interior was mint, strong clutch, good synchros, new tires (oem runflats), clean carfax. the only problem i have is a transmission fluid leak from the rear extension housing that will cost 500 bucks to fix - showed up 10k miles after purchase. good luck!
its just Supply and Demand. If they all cost more then that's the market. Sounds like you're a willing buyer but not willing to pay "market" if every Vette is "overpriced".
I bought my 99 coupe in June of 08 bone stock w/ 18K miles for 23K.
Sure, I probably paid too much (certainly by today's prices) but it is the one I had been searching for for more than a year. So it was worth it to me...no regrets!
99 a4 torch red coupe full load, glass roof 163,000 kms (100,000 miles) bought last July for $16,400 CD. Around here anything under $20,000 is considered a good buy.
Hope that helps
the market is FLOODED with vettes out here. for example there are 22 within 50 miles of my house, ive looked at three cars. all 50-60k and 2001's and lots wants 21-24k for them!!!! their 16k-17k cars by book! i work in the car biz and grew up in the biz, granted im a parts manager and not in sales but i know this biz, and these cars are way above book.
the one car that is close is the 99FRC, its unlisted and on a small lot and i can probably get it for around 16k, and its got 54k on it. its the most fairly priced car ive seen in three months or serious searching.

Have you looked at private owner cars?
In New York 1997-1999 70k mile cars go for 14-15k At a dealer they ask 17-19k.

It's like anything else, you have something you want to sell, naturally, it's worth more to the seller than the buyer wants to pay, that's the way it is. Just like buying and selling homes, it's what the market will bare. If someone wants it bad enough, they will pay the seller's price.
Paid $27500.00 for 2001 auto TorchRed Convertible with 39900 miles. Purchased from a dealer. Probably paid a little more then I should but I wanted the dealer warranty. Knock on wood, never used the warranty. That was in 12/06
Well, hello neighbor! Have you been looking at www.craigslist.com? There lots from which to choose in this area being sold by individuals. (Dealers charge more because they have overhead and pay sales commissions.) As for your trade-in, suggest you list your car on the same site, and sell it yourself -- you'd get more than what a dealer would offer. Also, consider enlarging your search area. For example, check craigslist for Phoenix, Houston, Las Vegas and others since air fares are currently low. The Vette you want is out there, and good luck.
its really refreshing to hear somebody finding High prices - seems most of the comments I see on the forum say you can get a Vette way under book. Maybe the value is leveling out a bit?? (hope so)
