Default Column Lock Bypass

I have purchased a column lock bypass from AdaptivePerformance and have installed it. My steering column has never locked up but I get the message, "steering column lock". The car will kill at 1 1/2 MPH. Can you tell me what the next step in solving this problem is. I think it is the codes in the car. Do I need to clear them? If so, how do I do that? Thanks,

Can't clear this code. Have you installed the CLB properly? Was the GM K harness installed and have you removed it before CLB or just installed over it?

I am not sure what you are talking about when you say GM K harness?

Review this web page specifically the last section of the #2 section.

http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=24

Turn the key on clear the codes shut it off, perform the step as described above. Then see what happens.

From another post:
How to check DTC codes:
1) Turn on the ignition, but don't start the engine.
2) Press "Reset" button in order to clear any IPC display warning messages.
3) Press and hold "Options" and press "Fuel" 4 times within a 10 second period.
4) The computer will now scroll through all the modules, showing the error codes. Once it is done it will display "No More Codes"
At any time you can scroll up and down to see each code by using the "Trip" and the "Options" buttons. Scroll to the component that has the code and press the "Gauges" button to view the code(s) numbers. To scroll through these code
numbers, use the "Trip" and "Options" button again. Hold "Reset" to clear any codes. You can delete one code at time or
all codes in any component.
5) Press the "E/M" button or shut off ignition key to end session

To optionally reset the codes once in manual mode
1) Press and hold RESET until it displays "NO CODES".
2) Press OPTIONS to go to the next module.
Repeat the steps in this paragraph until you have reset the codes in all the computer modules.

If you connected a CLB relay, and the car still shuts off when you drive it, my guess is that you plugged it in the wrong place.
You have a GM Harness K relay that must be removed before you connect the CLB. You may have connected the CLB to the end of the GM harness instead of to the main connector to the BCM.

If your actuator still works, you can connect the BCM back directly to the column lock actuator without any relays (CLB or GM Harness) just to see if that solves the fuel shutoff problem.

Is this car a manual or automatic trans. It will make a difference in the things you need to check.

To start with here is a link to a pic of the GM K harness:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ight=k+harness

If you plugged the K harness into a female connector that has only two wires, a white and a purple, then you plugged it into the WRONG connector. That is the female end of the K Harness and the CLB will NOT work in that configuration. Find the male connector of the K Harness, disconnect it and and plug the male connector of the CLB into the female connector the K Harness was plugged into.

Next you MUST clear the messages and DTC's before you try to start the car. Easiest way is disconnect the Neg battery cable for 10 minutes.

Finally if the car is a manual there may be an additional relay loocated under the BCM on the drivers side that needs to be disconnected. Read the first page of the FAQ's about the column lock in the TECH forum. Read it carefully. There is a description of the additional relay and how to bypass it toward the bottom of CSCOKD's writeup. Here's a cut and paste of that info:

Q Why is there sometimes a conflict between the recall mod and my CLB?
A
For MN6 and M12 cars, the recall mod added a second relay (different from the Harness K which is the GM version of the CLB) between your BCM and your ECL in series with the orange (LOCK) wire. This is to safeguard against a spurious glitch from ever locking your ECL while you are driving (clearly GM is paranoid now). The problem is that this second relay is causing a timing glitch, which resets your CLB immediately after it switches states. The reason it works with your stock ECL is because your ECL motor (being mechanical and slow compared to solid-state logic), is immune to these timing glitches whereas the latching relay inside your CLB sees these glitches and reacts to them.

Q For MN6/M12 cars what can I do if this situation occurs?
A
Go into your passenger footwell. Remove your BCM and locate the recall mod relay, remove it and add a jumper wire between the white wire (pin 30) and the orange wire (pin 87). Note that there are two orange wires, so make sure you get the right one!
