So I want to remove the front and rear corvette badges on my FRC because there are just way too many corvette badges on the car. I read in the original post of this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...ch-or-not.html that if you take the front badge off that it'll leave holes. Can anyone confirm this? If so why would it leave holes?
If I can't take the badge off the front can anyone tell me how to take the badge off the back? A friend wants me to use a razor blade but I don't know if I feel comfortable using a razor blade that close to paint. Also, If anyone wants to put up pics of de-badged C5s I wouldn't mind seeing them.

Yep, removal of the front badge exposes one pilot hole, As far as taking the rear one off, trying fishing line....but make sure you have a good pair of leather gloves on so you don't slice your hands open

What do you mean "pilot" hole? I have no idea how the badges are held on so that explain me now understanding what you said.
A couple of weeks ago I was with said friend and we were about to de-bagde the front and back but I didn't have a razor blade to we didn't. I'm glad I found about that hole before be-badging.

The front logo has two holes about 1/4" wide; that is the "pilot hole:The rear one can be removed with a piece of fishing line; it's just stuck on there with double sided tape. I'm thinking about taking the rear one off too because it's a PITA to get water out and waxing around it sucks also.

Couldn't have said it better myself. THe pilot holes just make assembly at the plant alot easier...why the rear emblem has no holes for alignment is a mystery to me.
Lowcash, I noticed your located not far from me (I spend a lot of time in Fairfax county), is GB vette located near you? Did he do it because you are friends with him or does he do it for a lot of people (for money of course)?
Milleniumboy, yeah the washing and wazing is another reason to ditch the back, I just wish the front didn't create issues.
The paint was flaking off of mine pretty bad in the front so I took mine off a couple weeks ago and painted them black.
This is the mess that you're left with and you can clearly see the two pilot holes. I used a piece of string that I cut off my daughters kite and soaked it in WD40 and it came right off. Just use a sawing motion with the string. The worse part was getting off the old tape. I tried a couple things but nothing seemed to work as good as my thumb nail and some time. I don't know the color of your car but my paint was WAY darker where the emblem was.
I sanded mined down and just hit it with some spray paint for plastics and it came out a lot better than I thought it would.
Finished product.
Hope this helps.

Probably to help keep the front emblem on, I can't recall if they used a speed nut on it with the adhesive. The rear emblem is not as beat up as the front one.
I have had removed and replaced my badges several times. Yes, the front one does have two pilot holes. They are both very easy to remove using fishing line. If you are a little lazy and want to expedite the removal, you can also use a hair dryer to warm it up a little and the fishing line slides through it like hot butter. I have a 50th Anniversary Pace Car Coupe. The factory gray painted logos do not last but a year or two and the paint starts coming off. I first replaced them with the chrome ones from Ecklers and after a year or two the plastic colored badges mounted in them began to turn yellow, so I eventually had to remove them. Then I got this idea to put the 50th fender badges on in place of them. The fender badges work great. When strategically placed on the nose it will cover both pilot holes. I need one on the rear hatch so I can close the hatch without leaving fingerprints and/or having to use a rag. They are also a lot easier to detail around than the factory logos. They look like they came from the factory, not an after thought. They are easy to conform to the surface you are mounting them on. This is just my approach to solve a nagging problem that exists with the 50th logos, the cheapest, ugliest part ever installed on a Vette.

I am not friends with GB Vette, that dude stole my door handles, BSMs and emblems (JOKE PEOPLE). We all know GB Vette is a great guy. Gary is about 3hrs south of Fairfax. I asked him to remove the emblems while my car was down there last year.
Let me know the next time you are in the area if you want to see it in person.

Thanks. I still have to do the side Z06 badges. Winter project. I'm gonna do it in black with the Z painted yellow. The only problem that i have is that i live in Pittsburgh and everyone thinks I'm going for the Steelers look. I love my Steelers but there isn't one of them sending me any cash for mods.
Use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat them up and remove them. Do not use any form of tool. Afterwards use 3M Adhesive Remover or Goo Gone to remove the remaining adhesive.
The emblem has posts that are inserted into two holes. They peel the protective paper off and stick the emblem into place.
