I'm going to need to get my vette tested someday and I'm worried about my long tubes, highflow cats, and my blackwing airfilter not passing the visual inspection. Any idea if any of this is CARB approved or what do you think will happen to me when I get tested?
Long tubes: Texas speed and performance 1 3/4" long tubes ( I took of the egr stuff so I know that will have to get put back on again somehow.)
Intake: Donaldson Blackwing
Cats: Thunderbird something...
I do not believe any long tube headers will allow them to pass the visual test. If the smog guy is not familiar with the Corvette’s air intake system, you might get away with other types of air intake systems.
I know that the "Callaway CAI" air intake system that has a CARB number, which will allow that system to be qualified. The B&B Shorty Headers are headers that will be qualified to pass the visual test, because they have a CARB number certification.
I have both the Callaway air intake and the B&B Shorty Headers and the smog guy questioned me only about the headers. I showed him the CARB sticker that came with the header, and so he was happy (so was I). Passed with flying colors and I am good for two years.
You might squeak by with the black-wing but the rest will not pass and is totally illegal in CA
Since you have some time before smog I suggest you start sucking up to a local tech and pray they don't pick your car for smog only check, most of these places are very strict.
yeah great.... Well it sucks to be me. However my car will be Registered in WA for the next 2 years while I can claim "student" status at Cal poly. Thanks again for the info.
Roll of the dice...if you get someone uneducated that doesn't care about his job, you might pass the visual if your car passes teh sniffer. If not, you'll potentially be sent to a state run "Test Only" center and fined by the state if you try to cheat the system.
