Default C5 Plug wires

Just about to change my plugs and wires on my '01 Z06..got a new set of AC Delco iridiums and Taylor wires..
The old plugs are out ( spilt a bit of blood on this one) and they look as tho they need a change..
Question is what are the stock metal shields with springs on the ends of the old wires for? Are they heat shields or RFI interfernce suppressors? Do they need to go back on..they wont fit the new plugs wires, any ideas??

You don't 'need' them, so don't use them if they don't fit the Taylor wires. Suggest you keep the shields, just in case you ever go back to GM wires, then you could use them again, if you want. I'm going to install the GM red performance wires, and not sure I'll be using the shields.

Hi There:
They are heat deflectors.Tips: On the drivers side # 7 cylinder which is the worst one to get at.Remove the 2 10 mm bolts that hold the AIR pipe onto the block & move that out of the way thus eliminating the need for a double swivel socket.Pull off the metal washer & put it out of the way.Make sure your 5/8 th 3/8 th drive plug socket has good rubber on the inside to secure the plug tightly so it does not get dropped at install. If you have mechanic gloves use them. Q-tips work nice when applying the anti seize on the plug threads.Torque is 11 ft. lbs.Have fun!

Toss the heat sheild spring loaded covers!

They are not necessary on the new wires!

IMHO- I like the MSD Red wires Very low resistance!

Thanks,Matt
