Hey guys, and gals. I have a question regarding seat bolsters, my drivers seat bolster is worn out (foam) the leather is fine. I am reconsidering putting in additional foam in that area and wondering how hard is it to access the bolster from underneath the leather cover. Any suggestions, idea's? thanks, Rob
Are you refering to the side bolsters on the back or the seat bottom itself?
Either way you can't really get to either without removing the covers, but that is not that big of a job. If it were me, I would purchase new foam and replace. If it is on the seat then just adding foam won't really work to well and getting it to look/feel right would be close to impossible. If it is on the side bolsters, that foam has a slot that slips over a metal bracket and your air bag, adding foam there is not the right way to go either. You can get indivdual new foam pieces, just uncover and change what you need to then recover them. You could do that in an hr per seat using the old covers.
This link might give you an idea of what you have to do to take the leather skin off. While you have the leather off, might as well just change the foam, better off here's the link http://www.vetteessentials.com/instr...r_removal.html
VetteEssentials also provides bolster wing covers with their new seat cover backs that help prevent the hard/sharp plastic wings from cutting through both the foam and the leather. I don't believe they sell them, separately, but you can make your own. They ate pictured in the previous link.
