All Corvettes Are Red is a must for anyone who owns a C5 who previously drove a C4. I am one of them and enjoyed it vey much.

These two will get you started then pickup "Zora Arkus-Duntov: The Legend Behind Corvette."
While it is more about Zora than purely about Corvettes they were intertwined and he is responsible for a lot of the performance improvements in the 50s and 60.
"Corvette from the Inside" and "Zora Arkus-Duntov: The Legend Behind Corvette" (both autographed copies) can usually be picked up as a package deal on that auction site.

It's not a C5 book but Zora Arkus Duntov The Legend Behind Corvette, by Jerry Burton is a good read.

All the books mentioned here are very good. Those would give you a comprehensive background on America's sports car.

I love going to Borders and Barns & Noble. They usually have a couple Corvette books in there clearance section. I have about 6 or 7 Corvette books and a couple cool hot rod books that I got for $5-10 a piece. They are usually just time table books but usually not too bad on info and pictures.
