The first year of the Z06 was in 2001 and it came with the 385 HP Motor as opposed to the 405 HP the following year!
I believe there was a cam change in the motor and more compression that warranted the extra HP on the following year! Here is the specs @ corvette action center: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...6/2001z06.html
Actually , according to Corvette Registery the first full day of 2002 Vette production was on June 22nd 2001 ( a friday). The last 2001 was produced on June 21st 2001. My Z06 was a June 18th car.
There was no 405hp '01 Z06 officially but the forged Alcoa rims were still available on early 2002 Z06es.

Just because that was the first full day doesnt mean the first '02 Vette didnt come off the line on the 21st, which it did and thats what I said.
I looked at an '01 at a dealer. He had it listed as 405 hsp, and I told him he was wrong. He actually argued with me about it. So I got in the car pulled up the codes - a whole bunch popped up, and I said here while your learning about Corvettes you might want to look into what all these codes mean, and then I left.

Thanks all. I know '02 was the first year for 405 hp..I had an '02 that I kick myself everyday for selling. The reason I asked was that I read a local ad for an '01 that said 405hp so I called and asked if it was an '01 or '02. The answer was a very adamant it's an '01 with a window sticker etc.. showing 405 hp. At the end of the conversation I was confused and the seller was a little peeved. I thought maybe this was another tidbit about Vettes that I did not know.
