I just returned from a 2+ week vacation. My 04Z has its original battery and it would barely turn over the engine after sitting for that period of time with the electronics slowly draining the battery. Although the engine did start, the column lock didn't operate properly because of the low voltage and I got a "Service Column Lock" message when I shut off the engine. I charged the battery with a battery charger for a few hours and now everything works fine. However, I still get the "Service Column Lock" message every time I start the car, and for a few seconds when I turn it off. Does anyone know how to reset that error message? (Once I get that figured out, I think it is time to install a column lock bypass kit.)
You might be in trouble, if you fix the clb before you get the error message your fine, but if you get clb message on your dic I think its too late.
Search CLB and you will find hundreds of threads, there is also a sticky for you to read.
Hope this helps
Now that I get a message "Service Column Lock" every time I start and stop the car, I've noticed that the column lock stays disabled. It appears that if the computer detects a problem with the operation of the column lock, it disables it to prevent further issues. This may be a result of a software update that was done when the car was recalled a few years ago for a column lock issue. If I'm willing to put up with the "Service Column Lock" message, I may have a built in column lock bypass.
I replaced the battery because it was original and getting weak. The disconnection of power to the computer reset the "Service Column Lock" message and the column lock operates normally again.
Get a CLB from Corvettes of Houston or another reputable vendor and install it now. For $50, it's worth it for the peace of mind, not counting the expense, aggravation, and problems if you get stuck and stranded somewhere.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well I don't think anyone was waiting 13 years for your reply anyway. This thread is from 2009.
