Not sure about over heating, But I would have an issue using 80/100 watt bulbs with the stock wiring.

I tried silverstars a few years ago before my HID conversion. In hindsight, I wish I would have spent the $$$ at a blackjack table.

No major improvement IMO compared to stock. I went the HID ACA route earlier this year and although my complete HID/LED conversion was not cheap, it literally changed the way I feel about driving my C5 at night. I have HID lows and HID fogs. Combined, they provide more than enough light and provide more light than the OEM halogen brights offered.

The only time I use my brights now is when I flash to pass.

Just installed JW's projectors---Definitly the way to go!
If you can't afford them right now, save your money (do not waste it on an interim step like the plug N play HIDs the way I did) until you can.
In the meantime use the Toshibas!

I had 80W 9006's in the OEM C5 headlights for about a month before I got my excellent LightCannon's, the output was better but overall, still sucked bigtime.

I also had some 55W bulbs in the fog lights and while a little brighter, nothing like HID's.

Gotta save up for the (S)LightCannon lineup from TheRadioFlyer. While it costs some money, it is the ONLY way to go if one is going to spend any money on an upgrade.
