Default Lowest cost DR option?

I have a backup vehicle if I break my car, but it is my DD, so I don't want to put drag radials on the stock rims.

I have read 17s will fit on the rear of the c5z06 if I dimple the upper ball joint?

Are there particular 17s to look for? I am looking through the auction site to find 2 stock ones off a regular c5.

Do I want 17 x 8.5s or 17 x 9.5s to mount a 17" drag radial? I know on the older cars I always ran a 275/60 on a 15x8 but the smaller sidewall tires seem to like wider wheels for a given width.

What's the power of the car? is the clutch stock LS6?

You want to select the tire, then the wheel.

The car has ~400rwhp

I installed the ls7 clutch kit and a roller bearing.

Also, am I playing with fire to put any DR on a 90k mile car? The trans shifts real smooth, but I do not know the maintenance history on it before 70k.

At 353-363 rwhp in a 2002 Z06 with a stock LS6 clutch I made about 400 passes on DR without any breakage.

Your power-level is higher by more than 10% and the LS7 clutch has more clamping power than the LS6 version.

With a sticky drag radial added, the likelihood of breakage in the rear goes up. So factor that into your budget. Here are the typical pieces to consider see post #2.

The tire options I'd suggest are:
MT ET Street Radial 275.40.17 will fit on C5Z fronts 17" x 9.5"
BFG DR 315.30.18 will fit on C5Z rears 18" x 10.5"

The MT are stickier, but will put more shock to the rear.

Preventing breakage is mostly about avoiding the classic driver errors.
